Their only weakness is their poor starting position, but that's plenty easy to deal with. I also really like the mix of Greek and Barbarian units this faction has. Do you invade Italy or do you conquer your Barbarian neighbours. Brutally difficult start, since Rome and Carthage are friendly in DeI and quickly gang up on you, so you can't divide and conquer like the vanilla campaign. The starting position of Massilia creates some fun possibilities. So this might be a bit obvious with the name and flair, but DeI Syrakousai (Syracuse) is one of the most fun campaigns I've played in any Total War. Discussions, strategies, stories, crude cave-drawings, and more for Medieval 2, Empire, Shogun 2, Rome 2, Attila, Thrones of Britannia, Warhammer, Three Kingdoms, Troy, Pharaoh and others. Only three factions actually get them, and they are absolutely a game-breaker if used properly. Rome2: What is everybody's favorite faction in Rome 2 Recentely i have started playing Rome 2 again with Massilia. A subreddit for the Total War strategy game series, made by Creative Assembly. But more than anything else? Elephants, of all three varieties. You've got tolerable missile troops with the standard Greek Archers, and you've got Scythed Chariots for when you just need to panic a bunch of enemies on open terrain. You've got both Pike Phalanxes and Legionaries, so you can have your pike-wall cake and eat your excellent-siege-troops-and-amazing-reserves too (that metaphor wound up a bit tortured.). Companions are flawless medium cav, and there's nothing wrong with your skirmishers. Good Cavalry? You've got Cataphracts, and there's no such thing as better heavy Cav. Seculids are also excellent because they have simply the best army roster of any faction. They also have the best temples of any Roman faction (+exp and +equipment quality are win, basically) and they get Gladiators before anyone else, if that matters to you. A subreddit for the Total War strategy game series, made by Creative Assembly. In the late game, you've got the Post-Marius Roman army, which is frankly quite good in all respects. The AI is awful at managing the Greeks, so you should be able to easily rip their Phalanxes apart despite your apallingly weak early-game Roman army. Personally I love both Greek and Gaulic/Celtic, with Massilia being one of my favorite factions to play as, alongside the Arverni and Athenians. The Brutii have an excellent starting position and early expansion into the Greek Cities, giving them most of the wealthiest territories in the game from very early on. Favorite faction/culture in Rome 2 I’m just wondering what everyone’s favorite nation(s)/factions are to play and which is the most popular in the community. Lastly, the Britannic Celts are comprised of the Caledoni, posses the "Heroic Culture" and "Sacred Springs" traits, granting them a 20% charge bonus for all units and +6 sanitation to all provinces respectively.Įach of these factions also posses their own unique traits, such as the Saxoni who benefit from the "Voyagers" trait giving them an additional 20% movement range for any fleets they own.Best factions are either the Brutii or the Seculid Empire. they balance the unit roster such that you're not just spamming poeni infantry for every army. They posses the "Nomadic Archers" trait which grants them 25% more ammunition for all units and the "Warlike People" trait, giving them +3 army recruitment slots in their home province. Only containing one faction, the Alani, are the Nomadic Tribes. The Eastern Empires are comprised of the Sassanids and Armenia, who both benefit from the "Centralised Authority" trait which provides a -5 to banditry in all provinces and the "Silk Road" trait which gives a 20% buff to all commerce buildings in all regions. This used to be easy, but now it is a bit harder after the patches. The bad: Rome has to fight the other major power of Carthage and its allies right from the get go. The Germanic Kingdoms, consisting of the Saxoni, the Gothi and the Marcomanni, all receive the "Terrors of the Night" trait, allowing them to initiate battles at night along with the "Looters and Raiders" trait, giving them an additional 150% income from raiding and sacking. The good: Rome has a large roster of powerful infantry, a good starting position, land and wealth, easy targets for expansion, and the most polish of any faction in the game.
